Minera Loma de Nickel is the first commercial mine of nickel ophiolites in Venezuela, which processes nickel and iron from a geological site 7 kilometers long and 2 km wide, discovered in 1941 on the main hill of the region. The site is estimated to have nickel reserves of approximately 40 million metric tons (Tm).
