Information of interest
The Orimulsion is a fuel based on 70% natural bitumen and 30% water, stabilized with surfactants. It obtained a great impulse of PDVSA for its commercialization, as a substitute for coal and for electrical generation. For its commercialization and supply the new subsidiary Bitúmenes of the Orinoco, Bitor was created. Through the terminal Punta Cuchillo, in the east of the country, the product was exported to Great Britain, Japan, the United States and Canada.
In 2001, an agreement was signed with Chinese companies: China National Oil Development Corporation (CNODC) and Petrochina Fuel Oil, and the Orifuel Sinovensa Association was established for the construction of the second Orimulsion module.
Between 2002 and 2005 a project was developed for a new Orimulsion plant in José, whose production was brief, since it was later converted into a plant for the production of oil diluted with synthetic oil.
